We are retired civil servants. Tony retired in 2010 the day before his 59th Birthday and Anne, who is a bit younger, retired on the same day. Tony spent 27 years in the prison service ending up as the governor of a large high security training prison while Anne was a teacher for 15 years before joining the prison service as a head of training and skills at a local prison, the job she held when she retired.
We are experienced home exchangers. Between 1995 and 2008 we had 10 exchanges in places as far apart as the USA (5 times), Australia (twice), New Zealand, South Africa and Malaysia. We enjoy travelling and like to engage with people in the places we stay as well as enjoying the local culture.
We are active and adventurous people. The year before we retired, we sold our house and bought a 47 ft Moody sailing yacht and the day after we retired we flew to Greece, where the boat was laying and spent the next 8 years living on her. For the first 4 years we explored the Greek islands and the coast of Turkey, then in 2013 we sailed across the Mediterranean via Sicily, Malta and Spain, through the Straits of Gibraltar and then across the Atlantic via Madeira and The Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean. For the next 4 years, we sailed the Caribbean and the east coast of the USA. Along the way we visited nearly all the Caribbean islands, reached as far south as Surinam and spent significant periods of time in Mexico and Guatemala.
Sadly, our sailing days had to come to an end, largely because the boat was eating into our financial reserves, and in 2019, we sold her.
In 2017 and after much deliberation, decided to move to England’s West Country, to the county of Wiltshire and have spent the past 6 years working on the house to the extent that the previous owners wouldn’t know it - remodelling and installing a new kitchen, decorating every room and completely redesigning and replanting the garden.
We have also been getting to know the locality and establishing ourselves in the community. Tony has taken up church bell ringing, Anne has joined local art groups and we are both members of and heavily involved (Anne as chair and and Tony as secretary) in Warminster u3a, a self help charitable organisation which facilitates a range of activities for people who are no longer in full time employment. At present, we are only taking part in one activity - wine appreciation?.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
We live in a modern 4 bedroom detached house facing onto a small green in the pleasant town of Westbury in Wiltshire, UK. The house is a detached building and by English standards, is fairly large, measuring about 2,000 sq ft in total plus a modest garden and a large detached garage. Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms. The master bedroom with a walk in wardrobe, and the guest suite. Both are large well furnished rooms with en-suite facilities and showers. There are two other bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a comfortable double futon which we deploy only when necessary. Theirs is also a family bathroom with a bath/shower.
Downstairs, there is a large lounge with 65in TV and several works of art, a large kitchen (installed in 2019) with double pocket doors joining it to the dining room and a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and a small chest freezer. Finally there is a study with computer. The house has the benefit of high speed (500 mb/sec) fibre optic broadband and cable TV and we make extensive use of gadgets such as Bluetooth/WiFi enabled speakers which link to our phones and tablets, and Amazon Echo.
We have spent a lot of time and energy improving the garden and making it an extension to the house. New, fully folding patio doors allow access to a new patio area for outdoor eating and drinking, and raised beds contain flowers and vegetables. There is a barbecue and a dining area for those occasions when the weather permits outdoor living.
We are acutely aware of climate change and have sought to make the house as emission free as possible. There are the solar panels on the roof, all our electricity comes from renewable sources and we have replaced our gas boiler with a zero emission electric boiler.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in a well designed leafy new development on the edge of the small town of Westbury. The house is situated on a drive alongside 2 other houses overlooking a small pleasant green. The road is a cul de sac and it is very quiet with hardly any traffic noise. The neighbours are friendly and considerate.
WESTBURY is a pleasant town with an old centre and much new residential development around the outskirts including the one in which we live. It’s most significant attraction is probably the 13th century church of All Saints which has the third heaviest 8 bell peel in the the world. It has sufficient shops for most needs and a couple of decent pubs, but its main appeal is it’s location.
From a visitors point of view the town is an ideal location for exploring the west of England located as it is between the M4 motorway which runs from London to Bristol and South Wales and which is half an hours drive to the north, and the A303 which feeds into the M3 and which links London to Exeter and the South West. In less than an hour, it is easy to reach such fascinating places as Bath, Bristol, Wells and Salisbury. Moreover, it has the most amazing rail connections for such a small town. London is only an hour and 20 minutes away by train, and trains run directly to the south west, to the towns and cities on the south coast (Weymouth, Portsmouth and Southampton to name but three), South Wales and points north via Bristol.
Wiltshire is a beautiful rural county with an ancient history. Half an hours drive south of the town is the world famous site of Stonehenge and north of the town are the less famous but equally interesting prehistoric Avebury Stones, Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow. The county is dotted with Iron Age fortresses, 2 of which are within 15 minutes drive. Nearby is the village of Edington where possibly the most important battle in English history took place, the battle of Ethundun where King Alfred the Great won a definitive victory against the Vikings and changed the tide of history. Were it not for this victory, there is a very good chance that I would be writing this in Danish as England and English as we know it, would never have existed.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
We are experienced home exchangers and will ensure that the house is fully prepared and exchange partners feel at home. The house will be clean and tidy with ample storage space for clothes and other private belongings. All rooms will be open but we would prefer it if the study isn’t used and the fourth, smallest bedroom will probably be used to store stuff. Make free use of all electronic and
electrical equipment. We will leave detailed instructions. The car will also be cleaned inside and out We expect to find the house and car as we left them on our return.
Everyday cutlery and crockery can be found in the kitchen and we would prefer it if visitors dined either in the kitchen, where we normally eat, or the dining room - not the living room or bedrooms.
There is a watering system in the garden areas, but we would appreciate it if indoor plants are watered weekly. Please help yourselves to any ripe fruit or vegetables in the garden.
