Whilst I live alone, I usually travel with family or friends and my apartment is large enough for them to visit me, so I would be looking to swap with places that are similar sized and can accommodate a couple or group of us. I have 3 grown up children who all have partners and I also have two grandchildren (age 5 and 7). All of them have pets (not that we usually travel with them) so we're used to looking after dogs, cats and fish if that would be needed in your place.

Read More...We had a great time in Edinburgh! Dorothy was extremely well prepared for her first swap. Best marks in all respects! The flat is lovely and perfectly suited for swapping. The household is well organised, clean and easy to use. The flat is located in the university quater and in walking distance to almost everything we did during our time there. Dorothy recommended several places we otherwise would not have found. Edinburgh itself is definitly worth a trip if you are interested in history, culture and arts - or/and you like pubs and restaurants. We wished we could have stayed longer. Dorothy is a great host and we had good communication throughout our swap. At our return we found our home clean and tidy. We can only recommend swapping with Dorothy and hope we can swap with her again!

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
This is a cosmopolitan area of the city with great shops and restaurants close by. There are several supermarkets (including Asian and Polish ones), coffee shops, Malaysian, Thai. Vietnamese, Korean, modern European and other restaurants, and a good selection of vintage shops to browse. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the Old Town with all the shops, attractions (Castle, Palace, Museum, Galleries, farmers' market) and areas to explore and a further 10 minutes to the New Town, Princes St and the new St James' Quarter shopping centre. Cinemas and theatres are within 5-20 minutes walk and there are always many shows on to choose from, and there is an outstanding Swimming/Diving Pool with gym and fitness classes close by. A short drive or bus ride takes you to the nearest beach and there are many others further along the coast or across the Firth of Forth in Fife. There are many golf courses within easy distance including a public links pitch and putt 5 mins walk away across the Meadows. The Meadows also has tennis courts and a large children's playground and a similar walk in the other direction takes you to Holyrood Park with Arthur's Seat and lots of green space. A train or car ride gives access to the Borders, to Perthshire, Glasgow or the Highlands quite easily for sightseeing and exploring the country and there are companies nearby in the city running day or longer coach trips around the country.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
The apartment is located just off one of the main streets in the city centre, and there are many attractions within a very short walking distance, including lots of open spaces such as Holyrood Park with Arthur's Seat, and the Meadows. We are so close to the University, Palace, Castle, Museum, Parliament, several theatres and art galleries, cinemas, and attractions such as bowling, the Camera Obscura, chocolate making experience, Scotch Whisky experience and all the amazing facilities of the city. You could not be located closer to everything going on here and it is all walkable and easily accessible - such a fabulous city! I haven't listed specific cafes etc below but will leave latest recommendations in the flat for when you come.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
We rarely leave Edinburgh in August, so are NOT looking for swaps during the main part of August.
We will leave a list of instructions for working everything in the apartment and our house rules - basically we'd just ask you to treat the place with care and our neighbours with courtesy, as we will treat yours, and to leave the place as you found it
You don't need a car here.
