Description of the home we are offering for exchange
We are Karin, Andre and our daughters Theske and Feemke. We live in a nice single family house on the outskirts of Oldenburg in Lower Saxony. Our house was built in 2004 and has a brick frontage that is kind of typical for the northern parts of Germany. The house’s heart is its spacious living and dining room with its six large windows/doors that give direct access to a large patio and the garden. However, the windows also make sure that is quite bight inside even if the weather shouldn’t be too nice. The dining area directly opens up to the kitchen which is equipped with all important kitchenware.
The bedrooms are all on the upper floor – the parents’ bedroom with a (very comfortable) waterbed and the two bedrooms for the girls that are both furnished with a queen size bed (1.40 × 2.00 m). There is also enough space to place another bed in everyone of these. In addition, there is another possibility to sleep on the attic.
The main bathroom on the upper floor has a masoned shower and a bathtub.
The patio is located in South-West direction allowing you to enjoy the sun all day long. In the garden there is a large trampoline and if you like you can also assemble a small swimming pool and fill it with water.
As said above our house is on the outskirts of Oldenburg but it doesn’t really take long to get into the city’s centre. This can easily be done by bicycle (Oldenburg is a true bicycle riding town!) which we strongly recommend to really discover Oldenburg and its near neighbourhood. However, if you prefer you can also reach the city centre in only a couple of minutes by public transportation – the next bus stop is located almost directly at our front door – or by car.
We discovered home exchange for us in 2015 and we have always been excited about it since because it is just so easy and straightforward and we have seen so many nice places so far.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We have a very nice and helpful neighborhood. If something is needed, just ask the neighbors and it works. In summer, we like to set up an open-air movie theater together. There are supermarkets and restaurants nearby. You can also get out into nature very quickly.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Oldenburg hosts quite a number of interesting museums, e.g. of art, history and natural history. In fact, we even have bogmen whom we call “Moor-Ötzi“ . The local public play house “Staatstheater” offers a broad spectrum of plays, operas and ballets. Moreover, there are a lot of smaller theaters showing concerts or cabarets and there is also a rather large cinema showing the latest movies. Every year in July there is the Oldenburg Kultursommer – a kind of public festival with a lot of smaller open-air concerts that can be attended for free.
In August there is the so called Stadtfest and the whole pedestrian zone of the city centre turns into a huge party zone with lots of small stages and numerous booths that offer drinks and food. Finally, in late September early October we Oldenburgians celebrate our fifth season when there is the Kramermarkt one of the largest annual funfairs in northern Germany that lasts about 10 days.
Oldenburg is located in the north-western part of Germany. Hence, it is rather close to Germany’s larger northern cities Bremen (about 40 min by car or train) and Hamburg (a roughly 2 h ride) which are both worth visiting for (at least) a day. However, also the Netherlands are rather nearby and its nearest City Groningen is certainly also worth a daytrip. In fact, the people from Oldenburg love to go there even more than to go to Bremen.
If you like theme parks you would also have some possibility to either visit one of the two combined amusement parks/zoos nearby which your children will love for sure. Furthermore, there is also the Heidepark in Soltau, one of the largest theme parks in Germany which is well known for its many different roller coasters and merry-go-rounds. That park can be reached in about 2 h by car.
Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Our guests can use and distort everything that is available in the house and like all home exchangers, we are happy when we return to a clean and tidy house.
