Caleta de Fuste befindet sich an der Ostküste von Fuerteventura, nahe dem Flughafen und der Hauptstadt Puerto del Rosario. Der Ort ist eines der großen Touristenzentren Fuerteventuras. Zahlreiche Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, Restaurants und ein großes Sportangebot versprechen hier einen abwechslungsreichen Urlaub.

„Caleta de Fuste” findet man in Inselkarten oder auf Straßenschildern oft unter verschiedenen Ortsnamen. Geläufige Namen sind z. B.: „El Castillo” oder auch die neue Bezeichnung „Costa Caleta”. „Caleta” ist das spanische Wort für „Bucht” und „Fuste” bedeutet „Fischerboot”. Der Ortsname „Castillo” stammt von einem (in Hafennähe gelegenen) Turm der ca. 1740 erbaut wurde. Der Turm ist jetzt Bestandteil einer Appartementanlage und diente damals ab Abschreckung für die Piraten. Caleta de Fuste gehört zur Gemeinde Antigua und ist ca. 7 km vom Flughafen entfernt. Es besteht trotz der Nähe zum Flughafen wenig Lärmbelästigung durch Flugzeuge. Mittelpunkt des Ortes ist die große, hellsandige Strandbucht, der Yachthafen und die Hauptstraße mit vielen Restaurants, Bars und Geschäften. Da der Stadtkern noch relativ neu ist, gibt es leider keine ursprüngliche Altstadt.

Der Ort ist ideal für Familien mit Kindern. Der Großteil der Urlauber besteht aus englischen Touristen. Caleta de Fuste ist in 3 Gebiete aufgeteilt: das Zentrum von Caleta de Fuste,Costa Antigua (vormals „Nuevo Horizonte") im Norden und„Chipmunk Mountain”, der „Berg der Erdhörnchen”, im Osten. Überall befinden sich viele Appartementanlagen und Hotels. Ein neues Gebiet ist bei dem Einkaufszentrum „Atlantico” entstanden. Dort befinden sich neue große Hotels und auch kleinere Strandabschnitte. Der 18-Loch Golfplatz ist hiervon auch nicht weit entfernt. In Caleta de Fuste kann man viel unternehmen: Wassersport, Unterwasserboot, Hochseefischen, Jet-Ski, Besuch des Oceanarium am Hafen (Wasserbecken mit kanarischen Meerestieren), usw.

Strand von Caleta de Fuste

Der Strand von Caleta de Fuste ist eine große Badebucht. Der feine Sand ist hell und sauber, jedoch nicht auf natürliche Weise entstanden. Er wurde aufgeschüttet. Die Strandbucht ist 600 m lang und bei Ebbe mit Kieselsteinen durchsetzt.

Mit den Dünenstränden von Corralejo oder dem Sotavento-Strand kann es der Strand von Caleta de Fuste optisch nicht aufnehmen. Dafür hat er andere Vorteile. Ideal ist der Strand für Kinder. Durch die geschützte Bucht gibt es keine hohen Wellen und die Kleinen können ungestört im Sand spielen.

Für Verpflegung am Strand sorgt ein Strandlokal, in dem man einen Imbiss zu sich nehmen kann. Wie schon erwähnt ist das Wassersportangebot groß und mit Sicherheit für jeden, der ein wenig Aktion mag, etwas dabei.

“Caleta de Fuste” can often be found on island maps or on street signs under different place names. Common names are e.g. E.g. “El Castillo” or the new name “Costa Caleta”. “Caleta” is the Spanish word for “bay” and “Fuste” means “fishing boat”. The place name "Castillo" comes from a tower (near the harbor) that was built around 1740. The tower is now part of an apartment complex and at that time served as a deterrent for pirates. Caleta de Fuste belongs to the municipality of Antigua and is approx. 7 km from the airport. Despite the proximity to the airport, there is little noise from planes. The center of the place is the large, light sandy beach bay, the marina and the main street with many restaurants, bars and shops. Since the city center is still relatively new, there is unfortunately no original old town.

The place is ideal for families with children. The majority of vacationers are English tourists. Caleta de Fuste is divided into 3 areas: the center of Caleta de Fuste, Costa Antigua (formerly "Nuevo Horizonte") in the north and "Chipmunk Mountain", the "mountain of the gophers", in the east. There are many apartment complexes and hotels everywhere A new area has been created near the “Atlantico” shopping center. There are new, large hotels and also smaller stretches of beach. The 18-hole golf course is also not far away. There is a lot to do in Caleta de Fuste: water sports, underwater boating, deep sea fishing , Jet-Ski, visit to the Oceanarium at the port (water basin with Canarian marine animals), etc.
